- “Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he’s been robbed. Most putts don’t drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull… Life is like an old-time rail journey delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.” (Gordon B. Hinckley, Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley [1997], 254)

- People who receive “sudden” money without any accompanying values often become hoarders. Or, conversely, they may become habitual overspenders, shopping with no concern for their dwindling bank balances. Quite often, they use money as a tool to control others, particularly family members.” Beating the Midas Curse, by Perry L. Cochell and Rodney C. Zeeb, Page 46-47
- “Just notice the voices and feel the fears. That’s all you need to do with them. You don’t need to rid yourself of them. Where would they go, anyway? All you need to do is acknowledge them, wave to them, let them know you’re aware of them. - “It was meant to be that life would be a challenge. To suffer some anxiety, some depression, some disappointment, even some failure is normal. Teach our members that if they have a good, miserable day once in a while, or several in a row, to stand steady and face them. Things will straighten out. There is great purpose in our struggle in life.” (Boyd K. Packer, Ensign, May 1978, 93)

- “In another series of conferences held in 2006 and 2007, we learned even more. Doctors concluded that three concussions appeared to be a marker for exponentially higher rates of ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, premature senility, dementia, and depression. Their research uncovered a condition called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which stems from concussions and can lead to depression and suicide. I called these developments “a ticking time bomb” and an “undiagnosed health epidemic” and predicted we would have an outbreak of symptoms that would be unprecedented.” The Agent: My 40-Year Career Making Deals and Changing the Game (Steinberg, Leigh; Arkush, Michael)–page 202

- “ September 20th, 1994 – Tuesday….Today was a learning experience. I woke up feeling super empty. I felt homesick, I felt like crying & very weird & confused. After 2 ½ months of feeling the Spirit, I know when it isn’t with me. And this morning it wasn’t. I tried to push it back & just get to work. We visited a few members and gave a charla for New Members to a young girl. It went well. We came home & on the way home Elder Salazar mentioned that he felt the same way (empty, no enthusiasm). We got into the house & it was super strong. I could feel it was Satan. So we prayed and cast Satan out of our presence. We ate at the Mamitas, then went & visited some inactive (we invited them to church). We then ran into an old man who had been walking since morning looking for his son. His son never visited him so he took a cab to a part of Puyo, and then walked since morning. We bought him a soda & sat him down in the shade. We walked him until we found out where his son lived. His grandson came & got him. I felt so good serving this man. I felt like a peculiar person because of taking time to serve him. A lot of people looked at us like we were wasting our time but we weren’t. We were serving this helpless old man who could barely walk. The poor man was tired & it was hot. I wanted to carry him but figured that would be a little uncomfortable for us both. After serving this man I had the Spirit back with me in a snap. I’ve learned that Service will bring the true love of Christ at any time!”- Missionary Journal of Clinton Brown

- May 17, 1995 – Wednesday – Quito, Ecuador… “We left from the Conference at 2:30pm to be at Franklin’s house. I left with my head throbbing without being able to think good. Franklin wasn’t there so I got pretty ticked & when we did see him I started questioning him like crazy. Well, he took us in the house & started crying telling us that he is big time depressed, and if something else would happen, he said he might be gone. Needless to say I felt horrible because I had just jumped down his throat. He looked like a helpless child. What bugged me most was that I didn’t follow the Spirit like I should have. So I was thinking of that a lot, and re-evaluating myself.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
