Baptism

• “Priesthood holders are called to preach the gospel. Jesus himself commissioned us to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations (). That great commission was renewed in modern revelation: “Go ye into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature, acting in the authority which I have given you, baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Men of Influence, 12-13

• Jacob 6: 8-11… Behold, will ye reject these words? Will ye reject the words of the prophets; and will ye reject all the words which have been spoken concerning Christ, after so many have spoken concerning him; and deny the good word of Christ, and the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost, and quench the Holy Spirit, and make a mock of the great plan of redemption, which hath been laid for you?  9 Know ye not that if ye will do these things, that the power of the redemption and the resurrection, which is in Christ, will bring you to stand with shame and awful guilt before the bar of God? 10 And according to the power of justice, for justice cannot be denied, ye must go away into that lake of fire and brimstone, whose flames are unquenchable, and whose smoke ascendeth up forever and ever, which lake of fire and brimstone is endless torment. 11 O then, my beloved brethren, repent ye, and enter in at the strait gate, and continue in the way which is narrow, until ye shall obtain eternal life.

• 2 Nephi 31: 19-20…Once we are baptized, is that all we need to do?  No, because we have made it to this point because of our faith in Christ.  We should continue in Christ, with hope, love of God, love of all men, feast upon the word of Christ, endure to the end, then the Father says “Ye shall have eternal life”. 
• “We accept Christ’s Atonement by placing our faith in Him. Through this faith, we repent of our sins, are baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, and obey His commandments. We become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. We are forgiven and cleansed from sin and prepared to return and live forever with our Heavenly Father.” Chapter 12, Gospel Principles
• February 17, 1996 – Saturday – Quito Ecuador… “We decided to go to Oswaldo Melo’s house.  We gave him a charla reading the Book of Mormon.  We invited him to be baptized.  He said he would.  We were speaking more about it when he suddenly gasped, and he said that he has a huge desire to be baptized this day, and that his whole body was filled with joy.  We helped him to understand that these feelings come from the Holy Ghost.  It looks like his partners are going to be stumbling blocks.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
