  • “The situation was incredibly dangerous for these men. They were surrounded by 20,000 troops. Most of their cannons were gone. Having abandoned their trenches and other lines of defense, they huddled on the docks. Those still on the front lines faced an even more precarious situation, for when the sun rose- something that would happen in just a few minutes- the British would see that the lines had been abandoned and mount an attack. Those who manned the garrisons would be the first to die as they defended their positions with only a handful of men. The sky turned pink and the sun started rising on an army that was doomed. It was then that a dense fog settled over the Long Island side of the river. Thick and heavy, it muffled every sound and made it impossible to see. Trees and men were obscured at five feet and disappeared completely at ten. And though the sun grew higher, the fog didn’t burn off. The orderly retreat continue, this time under the cloak not of darkness but the thick shroud of fog. Working frantically beside his men, Washington offered direction and encouragement until the last of the American troops had made their way to safety.” Information on the retreat of the American army comes from Brookhiser, Founding Father, 18-9; Ferling, Almost a Miracle, 135-36; McCullough, 1776, 182-91
  • “By every estimation, the U.S. should have lost the Battle of Midway. Consider the list of seemingly impossible occurrences that led to U.S. victory: 1. There was one chance in a million the US could have broken the Japanese code that revealed the time and place of their next attack. 2. Workers at the Honolulu shipyards were able to complete three month’s worth of repairs on the damaged Yorktown in just two days. 3. Against all odds, and while running out of fuel, Ensign Jack Reid was able to locate the Japanese fleet, removing any doubt that they were headed for Midway. 4. Scout aircraft from the Tone launched half an hour late, allowing US reconnaissance aircraft to discover the Japanese fleet first. 5. In the midst of the battle, Vice Admiral Nagumo ordered his fighters to change their ordnance from torpedoes to bombs then back to torpedoes, allowing the US to catch the Japanese aircraft on the carrier decks before they could be launched. 6. Nagumo got word from his scout plane that the US fleet was turning into the wind in the middle of an attack from Midway aircraft, wasting precious minutes before he realized the US fleet included aircraft carriers. 7. Lieutenant Commander Waldron somehow, instinctively, selected the right course to fly. 8. The Japanese destroyer Arahi chased after the US submarine Nautilus, then turned back, leading US dive bombers directly to the Japanese carrier fleet. 9. Despite the fact that the US attacking squadrons got separated while searching for the Japanese fleet, all of them arrived at the exact location and at the exact time they needed to in order to mount a devastating attack. 10. Nagumo made the mistake of ordering all of his Zero fighters to descend from high altitude and attack the low-flying torpedo planes, leaving the American dive bombers able to press their attack without interference from the Japanese fighters. 11. The dive bombers were able to hit the enemy carriers at the exact moment when they had their aircraft, ammunition, bombs, fuel and aircrews exposed atop the carrier decks.” Seven Miracles that Saved AmericaPage 243-244
  • “…seven episodes in our nation’s history in which miraculous fortunes preserved our nation from despair or saved us from destruction, including evidence that a Divine Hand: 1. Protected this nation from colonization by other kingdoms, holding it in reserve so that it might be settled by a Christian people. This in turn helped to free Europe from the doldrums of the Dark Ages while birthing a nation built upon the infant concepts of human rights and liberty 2. Provided miracles in the creation and preservation of Jamestown, the last of which- the sighting of the resupply ships at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay- took place just a few hours before it would have proven altogether too late. This assured the success of English colonization in North America. 3. Sent an August morning fog to protect a desperate and certain-to-be-defeated American army, allowing them to slip away to Valley Forge, then regroup with enough strength to defeat the greatest army on the earth. 4. Inspired men and circumstance in order to create the US constitution, the most important secular document ever written. 5. Prepared Abraham Lincoln for the incredible burdens he would carry throughout the Civil War, and then, when it appeared the fledgling democracy was actually going to fail, answered his desperate prayer to assure him a victory at Gettysburg. 6. Provided for a series of incredibly unlikely events at Midway, a battle that proved to be one of the turning points in World War II. 7. By a fraction of an inch preserved Ronald Reagan’s life, allowing him the time he needed to help “tear down this wall,” a feat that has had long-ranging and untold positive repercussions around the world.” Seven Miracles that Saved AmericaPage 282
  • “Most of what we know and love about the Savior happened on the highways and byways, not in a building in meetings.” Elder Jefferey R Holland, 2011 Yucaipa California Stake Conference.
  • “I think also of that night when Christ rushed to the aid of His frightened disciples, walking as He did on the water to get to them, calling out, “It is I; be not afraid.” Peter exclaimed, “Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.” Christ’s answer to him was as it always is, every time: “Come,” He said. Instantly, as was his nature, Peter sprang over the vessel’s side and into the troubled waters. While his eyes were fixed upon the Lord, the wind could toss his hair and the spray could drench his robes, but all was well—he was coming to Christ. It was only when his faith wavered and fear took control, only when he removed his glance from the Master to look at the furious waves and the ominous black gulf beneath, only then did he begin to sink into the sea. In newer terror he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Undoubtedly with some sadness, the Master over every problem and fear, He who is the solution to every discouragement and disappointment, stretched out His hand and grasped the drowning disciple with the gentle rebuke, “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (; emphasis added).” Broken Things to Mend(Jeffrey R. • “I talked to President Farnsworth this morning who told me that the three years he served in the Ecuador Quito Mission were miraculous. He was approached by a general authority in the beginning of his mission to set goals and expectations. Up to this point, the Church in Ecuador had four stakes created in the span of 28 years. This general authority told President Farnsworth that he and his missionaries needed to create seven stakes in the next 3 years so that the church could build a temple. President Farnsworth responded, “You are asking me accomplish this goal when it has taken 28 years to create only 4 stakes?” He was told, “President, we will give you the best missionaries possible to make this happen.” Three years later, President Farnsworth and the missionaries in the Quito mission had activated and converted enough people to have 11 chapels built, when typically only 1 chapel is built per year. That’s an average of over 3 chapels per year build. Also, there were 6,000 baptisms where, 10,000 reactivated members and 1,000 children were baptized from these reactivated members. Because of the hard work and dedication of the missionaries from 1993 to 1996 in Quito, 7 stakes were formed. While I was a missionary, President Farnsworth asked me to do a program in Puyo, Ecuador where I would identify on a map where all the inactive members were and lived. I did this with my companion Elder Navarro. I was to then go around and meet with them, and simply find those ready to be baptized. Most of the inactive members had kids or husbands or wives not baptized, and so the program became a big success. President Farnsworth then duplicated this effort in other areas of the mission. Later on, in my mission, he put me in charge of a “coordinator program”. That coordinator program essentially allowed me and a group of the some of the best elders and sisters in the mission to go around to the stakes and train Stake President, bishops, ward mission leaders on how to do missionary work properly. President Farnsworth said that this program is now being implemented church-wide, which is true because I sit in on PEC and other meetings where this missionary process and program is now being implemented, where missionaries do go into the home of inactive member and part member families for the purpose of activating and baptizing.” Clinton Brown, after having lunch with President Farnsworth and Elder Steve Beck in Mesa, AZ in February 2013.

  • Jacob 4:6… Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea.
  • A Lamanite Woman, Abish, was secretly converted to the gospel many years ago because of her Father’s vision, saw all that the Power of God was in action with Ammon, the Queen, the King, and all the servants. She saw this as an “opportunity” that could help the people believe in the power of God. So she “ran” from house to house telling everyone about it. Once the people saw what was happening, they began to argue whether it was from God or not. One man tried to kill Ammon, but before his “mission” he was blessed with protection. So that man fell dead when he tried to kill Ammon. The people began to argue, even more, causing Abish to be sad and cry, and then she was prompted to go and take the hand of the Queen. As soon as she did this, the Queen arose and began to speak things of God. Her husband, King Lamoni, also rose. He saw the contention going on, and rebuked them, then taught them the gospel. All were converted because of the initial promptings and actions of the Lamanite Woman, Abish.
  • Prophecy of Christ coming to earth to work might miracles, like healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the blind to receive their sight, the deaf to hear, and curing of diseases, casting out devils, suffered all we did/do on earth, even until blood came from every pore.  His name to be Jesus, and his mother Mary.  He comes to his own (the Jews), and his own shall crucify him.  After 3 days, he will resurrect.  He will judge the children of men with a righteous judgment and will atone for all.
  • Mosiah 8: 16-18… And Ammon said that a seer is a revelator and a prophet also; and a gift which is greater can no man have, except he should possess the power of God, which no man can; yet a man may have great power given him from God.17 But a seer can know of things which are past, and also of things which are to come, and by them shall all things be revealed, or, rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known shall be made known by them, and also things shall be made known by them which otherwise could not be known.18 Thus God has provided a means that man, through faith, might work mighty miracles; therefore he becometh a great benefit to his fellow beings.
  • Helaman 5: 20 – 52…Nephi and Lehi go to the Land of Nephi to preach to the Lamanites.  They are thrown in prison, left to starve, and after a few days are about to be slain when they are surrounded by fire.  Astonished, the Lamanites there witnessed this, heard three times a voice from heaven, and saw Nephi and Lehi speaking to the heavens.   Aminadab, a baptized member that dissented from the church, was the one that explained to everyone what was happening and followed the promptings of the spirit to do so.  300 people were converted because of these miracles and Aminadab’s explanations. Those 300 then shared the gospel with others.
  • “Whenever the adversary cannot persuade imperfect yet striving Saints such as you to abandon your belief in a personal and loving God, he employs a vicious campaign to put as much distance as possible between you and God. The adversary knows that faith in Christ—the kind of faith that produces a steady stream of tender mercies and even mighty miracles—goes hand in hand with a personal confidence that you are striving to choose the right. For that reason he will seek access to your heart to tell you lies—lies that Heavenly Father is disappointed in you, that the Atonement is beyond your reach, that there is no point in even trying, that everyone else is better than you, that you are unworthy, and a thousand variations of that same evil theme.” Jörg Klebingat, October 2014 General Conference

  • “I am convinced that when we give unconditional love; when our interest is first in serving, building, edifying, strengthening without thought of self; when we do not expect an automatic return for each act of kindness, generosity, or sincere effort to help; when we are not concerned about what we will receive or what others will say or whether our own burdens will be diminished, but selflessly seek to build another, the miracle of the power of the gospel is released in our lives.” 21 Principles, Richard G. Scott
  • “When I think of the wonders that have come to pass in my lifetime more than during all the rest of human history together I stand in reverence and gratitude. I think of the automobile and the airplane, of computers, fax machines, e-mail, and the Internet. It is all so miraculous and wonderful. I think of the giant steps made in medicine and sanitation. And with all of this there has been the restoration of the pure gospel of Jesus Christ. You and I are a part of the miracle and wonder of this great cause and kingdom that is sweeping over the earth blessing the lives of people wherever it reaches. How profoundly thankful I feel.” Manual, Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley, Chapter 3, Cultivating an Attitude of Happiness and a Spirit of  Optimism
