- “If the Latter-day Saints think, when the Kingdom of God (Government under God’s law) is established on the earth, that all the inhabitants of the earth will join the church called Latter-day Saints, they are egregiously mistaken. I presume there will be as many sects and parties then as now.” (Brigham Young) The genius of God’s law is that everyone is treated with respect and their rights are protected. As an epistle from the Quorum of the Twelve clearly stated in 1847: “The Kingdom of God consists in correct principles; and it mattereth not what a man’s religious faith is; whether he be a Presbyterian, or a Methodist, or a Baptist, or a Latter-day Saint…or a Catholic or Episcopalian…if he will bow the knee and with his tongue confess that Jesus is the Christ, and will support good and wholesome laws for the regulation of society- we hail him as a brother….” The Cleansing of America, Skousen, Page 30.
- “There’s a natural tendency in most of us to compare ourselves with other people, to say things like, “I wish I was as good as Becky” or “I feel like I’m trying my best to live the gospel, but I’m not even in the same spiritual ballpark with Charles.” We must keep in mind always that our Heavenly Father does not grade on a curve. He does not and will not compare his children in terms of their individual righteousness or sinfulness.” Coming to Know Christ, Robert L. Millet
- “Let us not forget that we believe in being benevolent and in doing good to all men. I am convinced that we can teach our children effectively enough that we need not fear that they will lose their faith while being friendly and considerate with those who do not subscribe to the doctrine of this Church. Let us be involved in good community causes. There may be situations where, with serious moral issues involved, we cannot bend on matters of principle. But in such instances we can politely disagree without being disagreeable. We can acknowledge the sincerity of those whose positions we cannot accept. We can speak of principles rather than personalities.” Manual, Teachings of the Presidents of the Church: Gordon B Hinkley, Chapter 20, Fellowship with Those who are Not of our Faith
