• Alma 19:17…Act on promptings of the Spirit.  Abish was prompted to go house to house and let a miracle be known, so she did it.
  • Helaman 5: 20 – 52…Nephi and Lehi go to the Land of Nephi to preach to the Lamanites.  They are thrown in prison, left to starve, and after a few days are about to be slain when they are surrounded by fire.  Astonished, the lamanites there witnessed this, heard three times a voice from heaven, and saw Nephi and Lehi speaking to the heavens.   Aminadab, a baptized member that dissented from the church, was the one that explained to everyone what was happening and followed the promptings of the spirit to do so.  300 people were converted because of these miracles and Aminadab’s explanations. Those 300 then shared the gospel with others.

To know what the voice of the Divine sounds and feels like, read His words, study the scriptures, and ponder them. Make them an integral part of everyday life. If you want your children to recognize, understand, and act on the promptings of the Spirit, you must study the scriptures with them.”  Richard G. Scott, October 2014 General Conference

  • Alma 19:16 -31 …16  And it came to pass that they did call on the name of the Lord, in their might, even until they had all fallen to the earth, save it were one of the Lamanitish women, whose name was Abish, she having been converted unto the Lord for many years, on account of a remarkable vision of her father— 17  Thus, having been converted to the Lord, and never having made it known, therefore, when she saw that all the servants of Lamoni had fallen to the earth, and also her mistress, the queen, and the king, and Ammon lay prostrate upon the earth, she knew that it was the power of God; and supposing that this opportunity, by making known unto the people what had happened among them, that by beholding this scene it would cause them to believe in the power of God, therefore she ran forth from house to house, making it known unto the people. 18  And they began to assemble themselves together unto the house of the king. And there came a multitude, and to their astonishment, they beheld the king, and the queen, and their servants prostrate upon the earth, and they all lay there as though they were dead; and they also saw Ammon, and behold, he was a Nephite. 19 And now the people began to murmur among themselves; some saying that it was a great evil that had come upon them, or upon the king and his house, because he had suffered that the Nephite should remain in the land. 20 But others rebuked them, saying: The king hath brought this evil upon his house, because he slew his servants who had had their flocks scattered at the waters of Sebus. 21  And they were also rebuked by those men who had stood at the waters of Sebus and scattered the flocks which belonged to the king, for they were angry with Ammon because of the number which he had slain of their brethren at the waters of Sebus, while defending the flocks of the king. 22 Now, one of them, whose brother had been slain with the sword of Ammon, being exceedingly angry with Ammon, drew his sword and went forth that he might let it fall upon Ammon, to slay him; and as he lifted the sword to smite him, behold, he fell dead. 23 Now we see that Ammon could not be slain, for the Lord had said unto Mosiah, his father: I will spare him, and it shall be unto him according to thy faith—therefore, Mosiah trusted him unto the Lord. 24  And it came to pass that when the multitude beheld that the man had fallen dead, who lifted the sword to slay Ammon, fear came upon them all, and they durst not put forth their hands to touch him or any of those who had fallen; and they began to marvel again among themselves what could be the cause of this great power, or what all these things could mean. 25 And it came to pass that there were many among them who said that Ammon was the Great Spirit, and others said he was sent by the Great Spirit; 26 But others rebuked them all, saying that he was a monster, who had been sent from the Nephites to torment them. 27 And there were some who said that Ammon was sent by the Great Spirit to afflict them because of their iniquities; and that it was the Great Spirit that had always attended the Nephites, who had ever delivered them out of their hands; and they said that it was this Great Spirit who had destroyed so many of their brethren, the Lamanites. 28  And thus the contention began to be exceedingly sharp among them. And while they were thus contending, the woman servant who had caused the multitude to be gathered together came, and when she saw the contention which was among the multitude she was exceedingly sorrowful, even unto tears. 29 And it came to pass that she went and took the queen by the hand, that perhaps she might raise her from the ground; and as soon as she touched her hand she arose and stood upon her feet, and cried with a loud voice, saying: O blessed Jesus, who has saved me from an awful hell! O blessed God, have mercy on this people! 30 And when she had said this, she clasped her hands, being filled with joy, speaking many words which were not understood; and when she had done this, she took the king, Lamoni, by the hand, and behold he arose and stood upon his feet. 31 And he, immediately, seeing the contention among his people, went forth and began to rebuke them, and to teach them the words which he had heard from the mouth of Ammon; and as many as heard his words believed, and were converted unto the Lord.
  • “January 14th, 1995 – Quito Ecuador- Jeffrey R. Holland Meeting – Saturday  Elder Holland called President Hunter to tell him what he was going to do here in Quito.  President Hunter told him to tell the missionaries that he loved them so much.   I realized how much love the Savior has for me.  I also realized that we have Angels all around us helping us and protecting us.  They might even be our deceased loved ones.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
  • 29 of Abril, 1995 – Saturday (10 months as a missionary).  Quito Ecuador….  “Today was a day I soon won’t forget.  I got up today with a weird feeling.  Almost the same as yesterday.  I felt a little weird inside & spiritually…..confused.  I just didn’t feel complete as a missionary or like something was going to happen!  My thoughts were all over the place, and I had a feeling to cry.  It was as if something really big was going to happen.  I prayed for strength, to have much more of the Spirit, to be a better missionary.  I promised I’d quit doing the little sins & that I’d control my thoughts.  Elder Hanks too felt really unusual.  Well, we left the house to catch a bus.  Elder Pickrell & Fernandez told us that a boy had been hit by a car.  Well, we saw the crowd gathered and I had a feeling that this was what the Lord wanted me to see.  To wake me up.  Well, Elder Hanks & I looked & there was a boy, with a newspaper over his body laying down.  All you could see was blood and his brain 5 feet away.  Needless to day I was big time shook up and started to think of life, the plan of salvation, death, my family, and I started to evaluate my life.  I need to make a lot of changes.  Life is so fragile.  It helped me realize how close each & everyone of us are close to death.  I re-evaluated my way of living & have decided to make a few changes.  I know that the Lord has something big time prepared for me.  I think he wants me to shape up so that I can be a better instrument in His hands.  I don’t know exactly what he wants me to do, but he sure is preparing me to find out.  He’s humbling me and is helping me to remember Him.  I pray I’m worthy for whatever is going to happen, and ready.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
  • “When we seek inspiration to help make decisions, the Lord gives gentle promptings. These require us to think, to exercise faith, to work, to struggle at times, and to act. Seldom does the whole answer to a decisively important matter or complex problem come all at once. More often, it comes a piece at a time, without the end in sight.”  (Richard G. Scott, Ensign, Nov. 1989, 32)
  • Jacob 2: 11…  Wherefore, I must tell you the truth according to the plainness of the word of God. For behold, as I inquired of the Lord, thus came the word unto me, saying: Jacob, get thou up into the temple on the morrow, and declare the word which I shall give thee unto this people.
  • Words of Mormon 1: 7… And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will.

  • December 20, 1995 – Wednesday – Quito Ecuador… “Wow.  Great day.  We taught 8 second charlas today and we committed 4 to be baptized.  We’re going to commit the other 4 ya mismo.  I’m really seeing the positive side of things.  When Satan does something, or something fails, I can recognize it, think, and do the best of the situation.  Many times the citas are stood up, so we think of another option – nada, and then another – nada – but we always find someone in the road, or by their house so that we make contact, or take out the referral.  The Lord really does guide us to do the things that he wants us to do.  I know this is His work, and no one elses.  I love being here.  It’s so important to be worthy of the Spirit.  If not – no success.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
  • May 17, 1995 – Wednesday – Quito, Ecuador… “We took off to Chillogallo in an evil bus.  The bus driver about killed us trying to race a bus alongside.  Not too intelligent.  Well, we got off the bus, and the roundabout was full of big time confusion.  Elder Hanks & I were confused but decided to keep going to Hermano Baez’ house.  We started going down an alley (one of the most dangerous) and we felt like we were going to get jumped or robbed.  We just didn’t feel too good.  So Hanks said he had the feeling to just go home – Quick!  So we took off quickly.  I saw a members house & thought that it’d be smart to grab my keys that I had left there last week.  So we head up there, and in their house was…..Hermano Baez.  Also an inactive Stud that should be a big leader in the church.  Hanks & I knew that we were guided to this house, 1st of all to find Hermano Baez, & 2nd of all….we still don’t know.  We tried helping the inactive to commit to go to church, but we couldn’t.  We kind of felt we were sent there to change the inactives life, but we didn’t seem to had done it.  So we felt as if we failed.  All I know is that we were guided to that house by the Holy Ghost for some reason.  I don’t know if we will ever know why. Maybe we wouldn’t be hurt going to Baez’ house.  Who knows.  We did take out a reference from the Taxi driver on the way home. Maybe we were lead there.  The Lord works in mysterious ways.” –  Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
