  • March 17, 2013, Temple Dedication, Tegucigalpa, Honduras:  “After an incredible discourse from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland about the comparison of temple goers being vicarious Saviors on the Mount just as Christ was our Savior, he took his glasses off. Up to this point, his entire talk had been in English and was translated by a wonderful Honduran brother. After he took his glasses off, he looked straight into everyone’s eyes it seemed: those that were in the room with him, as well as those watching it in other rooms in the Temple. I imagine that even those Honduran Saints that were watching it via satellite in Stake Centers across the nation felt the same thing I did: An immediate penetrating feeling of the Spirit. Right at that moment, Elder Holland bore the purest testimony in Spanish, bringing a rush of feelings and promptings that this Church, and its work, were true!”  Clinton Brown
  • March 17, 2013, Temple Dedication, Tegucigalpa, Honduras: “At the end of President Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s sermon during the temple dedication, he bore his testimony. In his words, “I know Jesus lives. He lives. I know this. He is the Head of this Church. I know we have a Prophet of God.”  Clinton Brown

  • “We can be reasonably active, meeting-going Latter-day Saints, but if we do not live lives of gospel integrity and convey to our children powerful, heartfelt convictions regarding the truthfulness of the Restoration and the divine guidance of the Church from the First Vision to this very hour, then those children may, to our regret but not surprise, turn out not to be visibly active, meeting-going Latter-day Saints or sometimes anything close to it.” Broken Things to Mend (Jeffrey R. • “The voice that bears profound testimony, utters fervent prayer, and sings the hymns of Zion can be the same voice that berates and criticizes, embarrasses and demeans, inflicts pain, and destroys the spirit of oneself and of others in the process. “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing,” James grieves. “These things ought not so to be.” Broken Things to Mend (Jeffrey R. And also, I had heard the voice of the Lord speaking unto me in very word, from time to time; wherefore, I could not be shaken.

  • Omni 1:9…Now I, Chemish, write what few things I write, in the same book with my brother; for behold, I saw the last which he wrote, that he wrote it with his own hand; and he wrote it in the day that he delivered them unto me. And after this manner, we keep the records, for it is according to the commandments of our fathers. And I make an end.
  • Elder Spencer W. Kimball had an experience and spoke of his “adventure” with the Book of Mormon: “May I tell you of a great adventure? As I traveled to a weekend assignment, I took with me an unusual book which was my constant companion. I could lay it down only to sleep, eat, and change trains. It fascinated me, captivated me, and held me spellbound with its irresistible charm and engaging interest. I have read it many times. “As I finished it, I closed the book and sat back, absorbed as I relived its contents. Its pages held me, bound me, and my eyes were riveted to them. I knew the book was factual, but as has been said, ‘Truth is stranger than fiction.’ . . . “I found in its life at its best and at its worst, in everchanging patterns. I hardly recovered from one great crisis until another engulfed me. . . . “This dramatic story is one of the greatest ever played by a man. . . .“Its story has a vital message to all people. . . .“Archaeologists may be excited as they read of ruins of ancient cities, highways, and buildings. . . .“Journalists will find in this book crisis after crisis, presenting rich material for limitless climactic stories. . . .“This unparalleled book should intrigue navigators. . . .“The student of economics will find in this unusual book the disintegration of nations through pride, soft living, and luxuries, terminating finally in hunger and fetters. . . . “The astronomer and geologist here may see signs in the heavens and new stars come into focus, three days without sun . . . nights without darkness . . . and vapor of darkness so impenetrable that no glimmer, nor candles, nor torches, nor fire could give any light. . . .“Engineers will learn . . . that . . . centuries ago, men erected buildings, temples, and highways with cement. . . .“The psychologists may find studies in human behavior and the workings of the human mind and the rationalizing processes where men convince themselves that ‘good is bad, and that bad is good.’ . . . “The educator will find treasures of literature and poetry. . . .“This comprehensive book should be studied by politicians, government leaders, kings, presidents, and premiers to see the rise and fall of empires, and the difference between statesmanship and demagoguery. . . .“Scientists will read of unusual instruments never patented or remade or duplicated, of elements which, without recharging, illuminate dark spaces indefinitely. . . .“Military men may learn much in strategy, intrigue, in movements, in morale. . . .“But after all, it is not the book’s dramatic crises, its history, its narrative that are so important, but its power to transform men into Christlike beings worthy of exaltation. “It is the word of God. It is a powerful second witness of Christ. And, certainly, all true believers who love the Redeemer will welcome additional evidence of his divinity. . . .“My beloved friends, I give to you the Book of Mormon. May you read it prayerfully, study it carefully, and receive for yourselves the testimony of its divinity” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1963, pp. 62–65, 67–68).
  • “When a man receives the surety in his heart that this work is true, when he gains a testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost, then he knows what the world does not know, and he can go forth and bear record of it to them.” Conference Report, Bruce R. McConkie
  • “Brother Chad Webb, from CES, noted this tie between empathy and those who distance themselves from the Church:  “They are stepping away because [they] see issues through a certain set of lenses — often through the lenses of not fitting in or through heartbreak or unmet expectations. If we answer their questions without empathy, without understanding the context, we may not provide the help they need. Even worse, if we are dismissive, judgmental, or defensive, we will lose their trust and the opportunity to have a positive influence in their lives.” Brother Webb suggested that understanding why people say or do things is more important to our ministry than observing what they actually say or do.”  – President Scott Smith, San Clemente Stake Conference, June 13th, 2021
  • December 28, 1995 – Thursday – Quito Ecuador… “A lot of appointments dogged us today.  Satan was trying to deanimarnos (discourage us).  But he can’t.  THis morning we had Zone Study.  Our Zone is sweet.  We have a lot of fun together.  Elder Herrera and I walked all over the place today.  We had 3 charlas.  Yesterday we had 6.  Yesterday, during the Joseph Smith principle at the Bustamante’s house, the Spirit was so strong. It was in  my whole body testifying that Joseph Smith is a true prophet.  I have no doubt of that!!! We committed Marcelo Sifuentes and Mirian Zambrano to be baptized on the 7th of January.  They’re neat people, and will be baptized.  I love this work.  At times I’m so tired, or want to give up, but no way.  It’s like the 4th Quarter.  Bear down and get ‘em.  Before the mission I was worried because I had no excitement for the church.  It was all Sports!  I could get hyped up for Sports but not church.  I prayed a lot during high school that the Lord would convert my excitement for Sports to excitement to Spread the Gospel.  I tell you what, the Lord has answered my prayers.  My adrenaline gets flowing to leave the house, hunt down the chosen, teach with the Spirit, and help people progress.  I love it when the other team – Satan – tries to impede us or beat us.  I get pumped to find out how to beat him.” – Clinton Brown Missionary Journal
